NEODYMIUM ROD MAGNETS

High Performance Rod Magnets

Rod magnets are cylindrical magnets that generate powerful, focused magnetic fields along their length. It is ideal for applications that need accurate magnetic positioning or alignment. Their design makes them simple to incorporate into diverse systems, ensuring dependable industrial and commercial application performance.

Rod Magnets in Standard Sizes & Custom Options

For specific applications, the rod magnet’s size directly impacts its magnetic performance. A giant rod magnet produces an extraordinarily intense magnetic force, making integration with other components complex and even causing misalignment issues. In contrast, a rod magnet that is too tiny may be unable to create enough magnetic strength to meet the requirements of any application.

Sizing is critical to ensuring the magnet fits correctly in the system, resulting in maximum magnetic field strength and functional precision.

  • The diameter ranges typically from 2.00 mm to 15.00 mm (0.08 to 0.59″).
  • The height ranges from 3.00 mm to 100.00 mm (0.12″ to 3.94″).
  • Adhesive force ranges from 0.16 KG to 9.00 KG.

*Bar magnets are neodymium magnets with a height greater than their diameter, while disc magnets have a height smaller than their diameter.

During customization, we ensure that each magnet’s dimensions are exact and give rigorous tolerance limits. The specific tolerances are:
Diameter tolerances range from

  • 2.00 mm to 25.00 mm (0.06″ to 1.00″), tolerance is ±0.10 mm (±0.004″)
  • 25.00 mm to 50.00 mm (1.00″ to 2.00″), tolerance is ±0.20 mm (±0.008″)
  • 50.00 mm to 75.00 mm (2.00″ to 3.00″), tolerance is ±0.30 mm (±0.012″)
  • 75.00 mm to 100.00 mm (3.00″ to 4.00″), tolerance is ±0.40 mm (±0.016″)
  • Thickness tolerance: ±0.10 mm applies to all sizes.

These tolerances and dimensions may be adjusted based on a specific application’s operating environment and design requirements.

Magnetization Pattern and Direction

Rod magnets may be magnetized in various directions, depending on their purpose. Their most prevalent magnetization is axial, in which the magnetic field travels throughout the length, giving homogeneity for applications like motors and magnetic assembly. Radial magnetization occurs when the field extends from the center, making it excellent for applications such as magnetic filters.

Diametrical magnetization, which appears on the sides of the poles, is often employed for systems that need a perpendicular magnetic field. Choosing the correct magnetization direction ensures that the performance is acceptable for each application.

Rod Magnet Features & Characteristics

  • What are rod magnets? Rod magnets are cylindrical permanent magnets with a longer length than diameter. They are used in various applications that require focused magnetic fields.

  • How are rod magnets magnetized? Rod magnets are mainly magnetized axially (along the length) but can also be magnetized radially or diametrically for specific applications.

  • What are the common uses of rod magnets? They are used in motors, sensors, magnetic assemblies, and filters where precise magnetic fields are required.

  • What sizes are available? Rod magnets typically range from 2 mm to 100 mm in diameter, with customizable lengths.

  • Are rod magnets strong? Please handle powerful ones carefully to avoid injury from their strong magnetic force.

  • Can rod magnets be cut? It’s not recommended, as cutting can weaken or break the magnet.

  • How should rod magnets be stored? Store away from electronics or other magnets in a dry, cool place, using a magnetic keeper if needed.

  •  Can rod magnets be used in high temperatures? Temperature tolerance depends on the material; neodymium magnets can lose magnetism above 80-230°C, while samarium-cobalt magnets can handle higher temperatures.

  • What’s the difference between rod magnets and other shapes? Rod magnets offer concentrated magnetic fields along their length, making them ideal for directional magnetic force, unlike disc or ring magnets.

Rod Magnets in Other Designs

Aside from neodymium rod magnets, TOPMAG offers rod magnets comprised of ferrite, alnico, and samarium-cobalt (SmCo), each having unique benefits for specific applications:

Ferrite Rod Magnets are well-known for their low cost and corrosion resistance. Their primary applications are automotive sensors and magnetic separators, where low cost and stability under harsh environmental conditions are essential.

Alnico Rod Magnets resist high-temperature applications and maintain exceptional magnetic characteristics at extremely high temperatures. These are frequently used for high-temperature sensors and electric guitar pickups, where temperature stability and endurance are critical.

Samarium-cobalt Rod Magnets have extraordinarily high magnetic power and temperature resistance. As a result, they are best suited for aerospace applications and very accurate measurement equipment, providing higher stability and performance in severe environments.
